Chaos at Howe Community Park Leaves 4 Shot in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood
Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a violent incident that occurred on April 18 2026 at Howe Park in Sacramento just as authorities were dissolving an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.
Background
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first dispatched to Howe Community Park just after 6:30 in the evening after getting calls of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Shortly after, a follow-up call was made about a reported physical confrontation breaking out inside the park.
An overhead unit flew over the park but was unable to locate click here the reported altercation. Nevertheless, it was apparent that a massive group had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.
When the Shots Rang Out
Deputies moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and making announcements ordering the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.
As the crowd was being cleared that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The shots sent hundreds fleeing. Law enforcement at once began finding those who had been shot.
The Shooting Victims
When the dust settled, four people were identified as having gunshot wounds. All four — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Medical teams stated that two had critical injury classifications, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, each of the four victims was stable.
Sacramento fire crews arrived on scene and provided medical assistance those who had been shot prior to hospital transport.
Evidence at the Scene
Most of the gunfire seemed to have unfolded on the Cottage Way corridor alongside the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators recovered extra shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were also found in the iron perimeter fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. This evidence confirmed that a second shooter had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was put under lockdown as a precaution. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly for hours.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Information obtained through law enforcement radio communications showed that a suspect Kia was contacted by law enforcement in the Solano County area. Four individuals were detained. Deputies were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for formal questioning. Video reviewed at the scene confirmed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
